Gaea 3 Early Access - Mix Node is Broken

Excited to give Gaea 3 a swing. However, it looks like the mix node is broken. No masking options appear to mix any additional layers on top of the base input layer. Masking does not work via the mixer’s built in masking parameters nor does it work via the external mask sockets. Furthermore, many commands seem to send the mixer node into some sort of recalculation loop where it will recalculate over and over endlessly until you click onto a different node. Often happens when checking the “simplify” option to troubleshoot masking, but has happened with other commands as well.

Trying to mix deep saturated green (base layer) with lighter green/tan (layer 1) via height but can’t. Won’t work with built-in height mask in the mixer node, nor with an external height node plugged into the mask socket. I only get my saturated green base layer.

I’ve reported the via the built in feedback function in Gaea 3. Also wanted to share here in case anyone encounters the same issues, or has any suggestions for workarounds… Though, seeing as how glitchy it’s behaving, I think the node itself just needs to get fixed, lol.

Screen recording is worth a thousand words, so I made a 1 minute recording you can watch here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UnO8xHZvrGYkDvTsu1C2XLH1f5t4GetN/view?usp=sharing

(don’t see anywhere to upload videos directly to the forums)

After some more fiddling, I was able to achieve the effects I was going for by daisy chaining combine nodes with manual masks of what I wanted.

It would still be nice to see the Mixer node fixed though :winking_face_with_tongue:

Thanks for the report. Just a heads up you can blend color maps easily now just by connecting colorize nodes in after eachother. After connecting the height input you can use the “Blend with Previous” settings to easily mask them based on height and slope, or even a custom mask if you added a custom input.

Forums do not support video for bandwidth reasons, our server only has a finite storage so linking as you’ve done is recommended.

As for colour mixing, as Maarten has said use Colourise route for the time being, while Mixer gets it’s upgrades.

Dax’s new video goes over this too

Thanks for the feedback!
