Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I’m using the free version of Gaea 2.3.1. I’ve done a few videos on youtube creating Elbruc mountain, and using GIS for starting a real environment. I’m currently working on K2 and creating a tutorial and wanted to make sure I am using this tool in the best way possible. I’d appreciate your input on how to make it better, and my question is if I’m using the free version, can I export the scene using mesher? Another question is about an older file that I cant open it keeps saying corrupt parts of file. Anyway to solve that without redoing the whole thing from scratch? Thank you very much for this amazing tool.
Hey welcome!
Yes, but within the main limits of the community edition, which are:
- Vertices per side - 1024
- Topology: Tris / Quads
Yes, it’s still a little more hands-on, but the general goal:
-
install the version that the file was made on for full node compatibility
https://get.gaea.app/Release/Gaea-{Version number}.exe -
Find the nodes’ erroring/error issues through your logs.
-
fix/import/remake certain lines into your latest version.
Alternatively, you can work this particular project into the older Gaea version only.
Due to breaking changes, not every single project file will always work, so it’s up to the users to maintain their projects as best they can.
I appreciate that.
Where do I connect the mesher? When I connect it to the final mesh chokepoint it says “invalid edition”
After the Heightfield that you wish to export.
This is likely one of the points I mentioned before: for the community edition, you can’t use a resolution higher than 1024 or adaptive topology mode.
I’d check the following settings:
-
ensure that the vertex per side is 1023; this is because mesher resolution is n+1, meaning if you set the vertex count to 1024 it’ll try to build 1025, which is beyond what is allowed for the community edition.
You can check this by looking at basemesh at the bottom of the window. -
Also ensure that Adaptive (Sophia) isn’t selected, as this also isn’t supported in the community edition.
-
Finally, in your Build Options ensure that resolution is set to 1024.
Looking into it now, thank you. I will get a license as soon as possible.
I appreciate all your help!
Awesome, I have it exported and done. Will post some visuals and an animation as well. Thank you again!
