[Sediments/Rivers] Masking sediment accumulation when using Rivers node after Sediments node

Hello!

first time poster and Gaea beginner here. I might misunderstand the correct use of Rivers and Sediments as I am unable to generate a correct mask when using both in combination.

I want to build a rocky landscape with sand/sediments. Each part is getting its own texture treatment (Texturizer/TextureBase/SatMap) which then have to be blended with a mask.

I’ll have a pretty simple setup: Mountain Range → Erosion → Sediments.

I used the Sediments output of the Sediments node in conjunction with a curve node to generate what I need to blend both textures.

If I want to add Rivers I begin to struggle:

Rivers will change the height information so the water can cut through the landscape with a slope that makes sense. So, naturally, parts will be raised, cut or lowered so flow makes sense. This, of course, renders the sediments incorrect as height info will have changed.

How can generate I clean masks now that I added Rivers? I played around with DataExtractor as I watched Maarten Nauta’s tutorials. I couldn’t get it to work when using Rivers.

I also played around with a Slope node but was unable to generate what I needed.

What am I missing?

Any help is highly appreciated!

Cheers
