Hi, wondering if anyone has tips on creating mudflats in G2 like in this ref?
Hello.
I made this marshland terrain a few months ago, was very proud of it. Turned out to be quite a large node tree, since plains are very tricky to work with in Gaea.
My main tips would be:
-
Masking is very tough on flat surfaces, I recommend having two terrains. Basically I had one with much more prominent features for masking (for texturing) and a smooth flatter one to actually use as geometry and project those textures on (you can set it as your underlay but keep building on the more “structural” one):
You can even use more enhancement like height remapping on the heightmap for masking to make masks more distinctive if you need.
- Soil, Anastomosis, Flow, Peaks and Height are your best friends for masking. Masks from Erosion II’s outputs can also be helpful. Texturebase works well, too, for satmaps, of course. I also used “Freshwater” mask from “Trees” node there, it gives a flowmap that’s different from other Flow masks, much denser.
- Don’t forget to make a joint water mask eventually to separate water for rendering later (to add glossiness to it).
Not much else specific to add, everything else is the same stuff about geometry, distortion, erosion and detalisation.
Good luck!
Thanks so much for the breakdown! This is really helpful.
